Fairhope police were notified that several incidents of vandalism had occurred in the downtown area and officers responded and investigated.
Graffiti had been painted at the city parking structure, an attorney’s office on Magnolia Avenue and at the Community Park. Several other businesses in the area were also vandalized.
An out-of-state church van parked in the city garage also fell victim to the vandal’s criminal acts.
Two Fairhope men have been arrested and face numerous criminal charges.
Jaden Wayne Rowan, 19, was charged with two counts of Criminal Mischief 2nd and two charges of Criminal Mischief 3rd.
Rowan’s co-conspirator in the crimes, Bryon Alexander Lewis, also 19, was charged with one count of Criminal Mischief 2nd and two counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd.
An investigation led police to Rowan and Lewis who confessed and led officers to additional graffiti on the roof of three Section Street businesses.
Over the last few weeks in Fairhope, nothing seemed safe from the blue and black spray paint police said was used to vandalize everything from the city parking garage to a church van to the bathroom at a popular city kids’ park.
Some were initials, some vulgar language in the parking garage, BBK, and I don’t know what that stands for, said a Fairhope police investigator.
Police said Rowan and Lewis were identified with the help of surveillance cameras in the area.
Police were able to obtain surveillance video of the two and of a vehicle that they were in.
As to why the two committed these acts of vandalism, it’s anyone’s guess at this time.
