Murder in Foley-Suspect in Custody

FOLEY, Ala. On the evening of June 22, 2026, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Mannich Lane in Foley in reference to a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies located 55-year-old Robert Keith Barlow who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Deputies immediately rendered aid before Barlow was transported to Baldwin Health Medical Facility in Foley, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
42-year-old Joseph Lee Smith was detained at the scene while investigators conducted interviews and processed evidence.
The investigation determined that Smith and Barlow, who are cousins, had been involved in a dispute prior to the incident.
During the encounter at the residence, Smith discharged a shotgun, striking Barlow.
As a result of the investigation, Joseph Lee Smith was arrested and charged with Murder. He was transported to the Baldwin County Corrections Center, where he remains in custody.
