DAPHNE, Ala. As tropical storm Arthur made an appearance in our communities last week, several communities including Fairhope and Daphne once again faced sewage overflows that found their way into area waterways.
As some areas experienced heavy rainfall with some areas seeing more than five inches, overflows were reported throughout the area.
The Alabama Depart of Environmental Management Agency has reported that the largest spill was in Daphne and totaled an estimated 444K gallons which came from Daphne’s treatment plant and went into D’Olive Creek.
There were also reports as in times past during storms of the manholes on Fairhope Avenue and Nichols Avenue overflowing with less than a thousand gallons each escaping into nearby waterways.
ADEM also reported that the Baldwin County Sewer Service reported five overflows; City of Robertsdale one, less than 50K gallons.
Some systems report overflows regularly during heavy rainfall.
