Investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to a request for assistance from the Elberta Police Department in January 2025 in regard to a sexual abuse incident involving a minor.
The victim involved was under 12 years of age.
As a result of the investigation, thirty-six-year-old Marcus Hunter Thomas of Foley, Al was identified as the suspect.
The investigation revealed Thomas sexually assaulted a child throughout the last year in Baldwin County.
BCSO Investigators were not able to locate Thomas for an interview. After forensic interviews with the victim, a review of all evidence was conducted, it was determined that probable cause existed for the arrest of Thomas.
Warrants were then obtained by BCSO investigators for the arrest of Marcus Thomas.
However, law enforcement was not able to immediately locate Thomas.
On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force located Thomas in Escambia County, Florida.
Investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office interviewed Thomas, and he confessed to the abuse.
Thomas was charged with Sodomy in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse of a Child Less Than 12 Years Old. Thomas is awaiting extradition to Baldwin County to face those charges.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our law enforcement partners with the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, the Escambia County SO, The Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center, and the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
