BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
November 28, 2024
It is unthinkable that one man is accused of at least eleven murders including two where he allegedly engaged in a mass shooting where people were killed and injured.
This one man identified as Damien Laron McDaniel II is now facing 11 murder charges in connection to those mass shootings and several other homicides.
McDaniel is a suspect in the mass shooting that occurred in Five Points South in September and a second one at an event center. He is also accused of several other homicides.
But how did such a violent person go undetected for so long and why was he not arrested after being involved in the first shooting?
McDaniel is suspected of being the shooter in the housing community known as Vice Hills in North Birmingham.
There, the police shot at McDaniel, but he escaped.
Inside the apartment, officers found 61-year-old Charlie Herbert Moore lying shot and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
On September 19, police were called to the 604 Bar & Lounge on 9th Street North, where officers entered the bar, and found 35-year-old Diontranet Tinae Brown suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was taken from the scene with life-threatening injuries and later died at UAB Hospital. McDaniel is charged with her murder.
Just a few nights later, on September 21, gunfire erupted outside Hush, a hookah and cigar lounge, killing four people and leaving 17 others injured. McDaniel has been charged with capital murder and 17 counts of attempted murder.
The following night, officers responded to the South Eastlake area in response to a Shot Spotter alert.
Officers arriving at the scene found 32-year-old Jamarcus McIntyre lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
McDaniel has left a trail of dead bodies and people shot.
For now, he’s locked up and faces dozens of felony charges including eleven murders and several attempted murders.
