MOBILE, Ala. A Honduran national has been sentenced to six months in prison before being returned to his country.
36-year-old David Maximiliano Umanzur was arrested for illegally entering the US several times and was caught in Alabama after he illegally re-entered again after having been deported.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama announced that Umanzur was guilty and six months in prison followed by one year of supervised release. He must also pay $100 in special assessments, the federal prosecutor said.
Court documents revealed that Umanzur previously pleaded guilty in Alabama to trafficking cocaine and marijuana in 2010 and was deported in 2012 after serving his sentence in a state prison.
Umanzur later reported to the Alabama State Probation Office in Mobile in effort to expunge his prior convictions. After confirming his identity, ICE located Umanzur and detained him on April 16 of this year, court documents showed.
After completing his new prison term and supervised release, Umanzur will be referred to immigration officials for deportation, federal prosecutors said.
