Stolen Vehicle Leads to Pursuit, Shots Fired by Deputies
FOLEY Ala.
On November 19, 2024, around 2:30 p.m., Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office “Street Crimes Unit” deputies were in the area looking for a vehicle that had been stolen earlier in the day.
One of the BCSO deputies spotted the vehicle that they were looking for traveling on Charolais Rd near County Rd 65 and when the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen motor vehicle on Charolais Road the driver refused to stop after the activation of blue lights and sirens.
At this time, the driver led law enforcement on a high-speed chase, covering the outskirts of Foley, through Magnolia Springs, and into an area south of Magnolia Springs. The driver of the vehicle left the roadway, drove into a field, and then returned to the public roadway on Hartung Rd. The pursuing deputy successfully ended the pursuit with a pursuit intervention technique.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Jabari Maliek Stots, fled from the vehicle on foot.
The pursuing deputies saw a pistol in Stots hand and began giving verbal commands for Stots to drop the gun. Stots didn’t comply with the verbal commands to drop the weapon. A K-9 was deployed and the deputy noticed Stots swing his arm and shoulder toward the pursuing K-9, at which time the deputy fired a shot at Stots.
The shot did not strike Stots, and the K-9 was able to contact Stots.
Deputies reached Stotts and tried to arrest him, but he continued to resist apprehension. Stots was ultimately taken into custody.
Stots received medical treatment for injuries sustained from the K-9 apprehension.
The pursuit reached speeds over 100 mph and lasted around 12 minutes.
Stots was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center for the following charges: Resisting arrest, Receiving stolen property 1st, Felony fleeing or attempting to elude, as well as a preexisting felony failure to appear warrant. More charges could arise as the investigation continues.
