Representatives from the National Weather Service were dispatched to several areas in Alabama to survey storm damage and to determine if any of the affected areas had been hit by a tornado.
They reviewed several locations and determined that at least four tornadoes touched down during the storms and that there were at least three reported injuries.
Further surveys are being conducted, and the number of tornadoes could go up on Monday.
The Saturday-Sunday storms prompted numerous tornado warnings and left widespread swaths of downed trees and power lines thanks to high wind gusts.
In some areas of the state, thousands of people were left in the dark. The Alabama Power Company reported Sunday morning that there were more than 110,000 households without power systemwide.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville has confirmed three tornadoes in north Alabama, including an EF-2 with 115 mph winds.
That EF-2 tornado was in Franklin County and was blamed for one injury.
The tornado touched down at 11:20 p.m. Saturday just south of Russellville Road and east of Harris Creek in central Franklin County. It toppled numerous trees onto homes, according to the weather service.
The weather service also confirmed an EF-1 tornado with 105 mph winds near Tuscumbia in Colbert County and an EF-1 with 100 mph winds in Marshall County.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said a tornado with a preliminary rating of EF-1 has been confirmed in Hale and Perry counties.
The EF-1 tornado damage was found in Hale County along County Road 10. Several manufactured homes were destroyed there, and others were damaged when the storm hit about 1:50 a.m. Sunday. Two injuries occurred there.
Also, the NWS reported that straight-line wind damage was found in Sumter and Greene counties.
The weather service also plans to survey storm damage in Montgomery, Macon, Elmore and Tallapoosa counties.
South Alabama escaped most of the strong, severe storms but did report trees and power lines down, some power outages but there were no reported injuries.
