If you receive a call from a law enforcement officer or someone in the district attorney’s office telling you that you’ve missed jury duty and that you’re about to be arrested if you don’t pay a fine in the form of cryptocurrency or gift cards, it’s for sure, a scam.
You should immediately hang up and notify your local police department.
This is an old scam that plays out regularly across the country and many do fall for it.
Now, Daphne, Spanish For,t and Robertsdale residents have all received such calls, and area police departments have been posting warnings on their social media about it.
Police departments and governmental officials do not operate this way.
Although missing jury duty in many states can be a crime that is punishable by fines or even jail time, the person is usually contacted through other means such as by mail or in person.
