ALABAMA Thankfully, Hurricane Issais took a slight turn away from the Alabama Gulf Coast and spared our coastal communities from loss of life and major damage but that’s not to say that we didn’t suffer any losses because we did sustain a considerable amount of damage, several injuries and in other areas of the state, loss of life.
At this time, we know of at least three people who have died in Alabama and Florida from storm related injuries including a person who was killed in Birmingham when a tree fell onto their home and two deaths that have been reported in Florida.
In Foley, two trees fell on mobile homes leaving behind damage but no reported injuries.
Just minutes after midnight, the Daphne and Spanish Fort Fire Departments responded to a fully engulfed house fire on Country Club Drive in the Lake Forest area.
Five dogs reportedly died in that fire but there were no reports of injuries to humans.
According to Baldwin County authorities, between 6 p.m. and midnight Friday there were more than one hundred 911 calls reporting trees and power lines down, and at least three motor vehicle collisions.
Many area fire departments were dispatched out multiple times during the storm mainly for power lines down or on fire, trees across the roadway and for several medical emergencies.
The Mobile Government reported that the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department was kept very busy during Hurricane Isaias.
Early reports indicate there were nearly 70 tree incidents and more than 200 total unit responses just from the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department during the height of the storm.
There are still downed power lines and trees being cleared.
As of this morning, there were 46 traffic signals still out throughout the city.
We urge you to still limit your driving while crews continue to clean up.
The totality of Hurricane Isaias is not yet completely known but damages are known to be wide spread over at least three states.
