The Gulf Shores Police and Fire Departments responded to an activated sprinkler at the Seawind Condominium on East Beach Boulevard.
The fire department said that a tenant reported that water was coming from an adjoining unit and when no one answered the door to that unit, firefighters forced entry and found a sprinkler head had activated.
Police determined that Jennifer Nelson had intentionally started a fire which caused the building’s sprinklers to activate and damage at least 46 units and that the water had leaked from the 13th floor to the sixth floor.
Several residents had to evacuate their condo units until repairs can be made.
Nelson faces a felony charge of First Degree Arson and has been booked into jail.
Police say no one was injured and they do not have a motive for Nelson’s actions.
