Tropical Storm Bertha’s Swipe Leaves Little Impact

FORT MORGAN, Ala. As Tropical Storm Bertha took a swipe at the Alabama coast, as it headed toward Louisiana, it left behind a bit of rain, a few downed tree limbs and a few cars stuck in water or sand.
There were a few reports of a power outage here or there but nothing significant.

In Fort Morgan, several vehicles got stuck in rising water and were aided by the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department but one family from Texas, found their car washed away in the surf after parking a bit too close to the beach. It had to be winched out by a wrecker.

While over on Dauphin Island, waves crashed ashore and there were reports of vehicles stuck in sand as it was blown from the beach onto nearby streets.
Minor flooding and power outages were also reported.

Across the Alabama Gulf Coast, double red flags flown in the wind, signifying that the water was completely off limits to swimmers, and surfers, but a few birds were spotted standing at the edge of the water in Gulf Shores.

The Gulf Shores pier was also closed in advance of the storm and was scheduled to reopen Thursday.

As we made our way along the edge of Florida and across the Alabama coastline, there was no major damage spotted and for the most part, residents and visitors went about their business as if it were just a spring shower.
