Father Accidentally Shoots and Kills Daughter in Motor Vehicle

SEMMES, Ala.

A tragic shooting that took the life of a woman in a motor vehicle is still under investigation and will ultimately will be turned over to a Grand Jury to determine if criminal charges should be pursued.

It all started after a trip from a store where 40-year-old Emily Roney, her husband Martin Roney and father Ricky Smith had left in a Gray Dodge Minivan.

According to police, they were driving on Moffet Road when Smith began loading his 45-caliber handgun with ammunition that he just purchased when it accidentally discharged and the bullet hit his daughter.

Tragically, his daughter succumbed to her injuries.

Police and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded after receiving several 911 calls.

The shooting is currently still under investigation.
