MOBILE, AL. A crash involving a Mount Vernon man who was driving recklessly and was speeding more than 100 miles per hour before killing a woman on Airport Boulevard earlier this month has now been charged with Manslaughter.
The crash killed 54-year-old Stacey Neese, who was on her way to work. Neese’s brother, Jake May, said he remembers Stacey as someone who brought joy to everyone around her.
“She always smiles, no matter what she was going through,” May said. “She always was smiling. She had a glow on her like no other, I promise you that.”
According to Mobile Police, 32-year-old Clifton Land IV was driving 119 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone when his Dodge Charger crashed into Neese’s vehicle.
At the time of the violent wreck, Neese was attempting to enter westbound traffic on Airport Boulevard near Willow Brook Run East when Land collided with her vehicle, trapping her inside her vehicle and taking her life.
Police arrested Land on Thursday and charged him with manslaughter.
“Something’s got to be done about reckless driving, speeding in Mobile,” said May.
Now, as the family grieves, May said they hope Neese’s death brings more awareness to reckless driving in Mobile.
Police did not report that Land was under the influence at the time of the fatal wreck.
