DAPHNE, Ala. A FedEx delivery driver is now accused of multiple thefts after police were called into to investigate packages that were never delivered.
The packages, originally processed through the Theodore Walmart Distribution Center, never made it to their destinations.
Daphne Police were notified by loss prevention that some of those packages which were shipped to the local store never arrived and after an internal investigation, it appeared that the merchandise was shipped to the store but was never delivered.
Chief Gulsby said that many items that were missing were electronics, including Apple iPhones, watches and other electronics that had a combined value of more than $50,000.
Police working with security personnel added some track devices to some of the merchandise and discovered that some items were being opened and not delivered and police were able to determine that Jeremy Eaton, 39, contracted employee FedEx employee was responsible for these thefts.
Eaton, from Mobile, is now charged with first-degree theft.
Once Daphne police were notified that another theft had occurred, they were able to pinpoint his location, and police conducted a traffic stop on him near Walmart on US 98.
“The detective stopped him and recovered three Apple watches from his personal backpack,” said Gulsby.
Currently, the investigation is continuing.
