BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. A structure fire on Sunday destroyed a home and sent multiple fire departments to the scene to help extinguish the blaze.
According to authorities, the Baldwin County 911 Communications Center received a call about a fire on County Road 9 at around 1:56 p.m., but as firefighters were responding, they could see heavy smoke from a distance and immediately requested additional fire departments to respond.
The doublewide was fully involved in fire when the first fire engine arrived. Some grass and a wooded area nearby were also burning.
But as firefighters worked to get the fire under control, ammunition inside the residence began popping off, making it even more dangerous for the firefighters who were trying to conduct an interior attack on the fire.
Mutual aid came from the Barnwell, Fairhope, Magnolia Springs, Summerdale, and Marlow Fire Departments, along with an ambulance and deputies with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
A substantial amount of damage was reported to the home.
No injuries were reported.
The fire rekindled, and multiple fire departments responded to the scene at 6:09 p.m. Firefighters poured more water on the rekindled fire for several hours.

FLORIDA A Florida ban on carrying firearms was ruled to be unconstitutional on September 10, 2025.
The state appeals court ruling makes it lawful for most people to openly carry a firearm, and law enforcement can no longer enforce the open carrying of firearms, though the ban technically remains in the statutes.
The appeals court ruled Wednesday against Florida’s open carry gun ban, saying it is unconstitutional and violates the second amendment.
Gun holders in the state now have a choice to either conceal their weapons or openly carry.
Some law enforcement agencies in Northern Florida, including the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, and Pensacola Police, have now stated on Thursday that they will no longer enforce Florida’s open carry gun ban following Wednesday’s court ruling.
This change comes after a man was arrested for carrying a visible gun in Pensacola in 2022.
Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons released this statement Thursday morning:
Recently, the First District Court of Appeals declared Florida Statute 790.053 (Open Carry Ban) unconstitutional. While it is possible that the State of Florida could appeal this ruling, it seems unlikely. As such, I am instructing my deputies to no longer enforce the open carry ban found in FSS 790.053.
The Okaloosa Sheriff’s Office sent the following statement later in the evening:
We are following the advice of our legal counsel and legal counsel for the FSA and not making further arrests for open carry at this time unless the arrest involves a violation of a separate statute with or without the involvement of the firearm. We are committed to upholding the Constitution of the United States and the laws of Florida with excellence and integrity. We strive to reduce crime while providing fair and equal treatment for all. We are honored to serve and protect.
Even though the ban is now reversed, it is still illegal to openly carry in sensitive areas like government buildings and schools.

Theft is a serious and growing problem for eye care businesses, including both smash-and-grab burglaries and shoplifting. The high value and small size of high-end frames make them a prime target for opportunistic and organized retail crime.

DEMOPOLIS, AL. Some say that going to your local Walmart store is like an adventure because you never know what’s been added to the merchandise, what’s on sale, or what crazy incident that you might see!
Such was the case at the local Demopolis location, with one exception. Things became very real and very dangerous!
An armed customer, Kierra Carter, 32, is accused of attacking two people with a crowbar and a butcher knife.
Police first received the call as an active shooter, but quickly learned that rather than a shooting, there was a person inside the store assaulting others.
Investigators said Carter became involved in an altercation and attacked a woman with a crowbar and chased her through the store, then cut a man across his abdomen when he tried to take the crowbar from her. Police said that none of the people involved knew each other.
Both victims were taken to Whitfield Regional Hospital, where the woman was treated and released. However, the man had to be flown to UAB Hospital. His condition is unknown.
The Demopolis Police Department arrested Carter for aggravated felony assault and felony terrorism. She remains locked up in the Marengo County Detention Facility without bond.

JACKSON, Miss. July 9 2024 A security officer at a Mississippi convenience store and gas station was shot to death Monday, and three teenagers are charged in the killing.
Roy Love, 60, was providing security at M&M Food Express in south Jackson, according to the city’s police chief, Joseph Wade.
Love approached three teenagers at about 1:30 a.m. and asked them to leave, Wade said.

The chief said video footage showed the deadly encounter and that Love never drew his weapon. Two of the teenagers ran away after the shooting and one left on a bicycle, Wade said.
Within hours, Jackson Police Department officers arrested two 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy and charged each of them with capital murder, Wade said.
