ELBERTA, Ala. Several people in the Lillian and Elberta areas have questioned whether or not a tornado warning was issued for their area on Sunday night before parts of Elberta were hit by what now appears to be a tornado.
We checked with the National Weather Service as well as checking our own weather alerts on our mobile devices and weather alert systems in our newsroom, and yes, we have verified that a warning was indeed issued.
At 11:18 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for Southeastern Baldwin County and Central Escambia County in Florida, until 11:45 p.m.
The alert stated that there was a severe thunderstorm in the area capable of producing a tornado and that it was five miles northwest of Lillian, and 11 miles northeast of Foley, and moving northeast at 20 mph.
The alert further stated rotation, possibly a tornado had been spotted on the radar, and they issued warnings to take cover and expect possible damage, and that the tornadic thunderstorm would remain over mostly rural areas of southeastern Baldwin County.
Living along the Gulf Coast, it is recommended that everyone have weather boxes in their home and businesses.
Installing weather apps on your phones is also recommended.
The weather is very unpredictable.
