If you’re coming to Mobile to watch the Mardi Gras parades, a word to the wise, watch where you park.
And drivers don’t have to be careful just downtown, but throughout the city.
Police and tow truck drivers are on the prowl for illegally parked or trespassing vehicles on private property.
On the first day of the parades rolling downtown, we reported that 36 vehicles had been towed, and dozens of others ticket.
But that number has now climbed to 64 vehicles towed and even more tickets are being issued.
In fact, so far, these numbers are about double the number of vehicles towed in 2024 and police told us that unfortunately, those numbers will continue to climb because people are parking where they shouldn’t.
One officer said that there are bright yellow NO PARKING signs and that the city had made earlier announcements about where parade-goers could and could not park.
They’re just ignoring the law, the officer said.
Getting a towed vehicle will cost the owner $150.00 and they must have a valid driver’s license and proof of registration police said.
The temporary police impound lot closes at 11 p.m. so if drivers are partying downtown later than this, they’ll have to wait until the following day to retrieve their vehicle at the permanent impound lot on Virgina Street.
In just two days, the city collected $9,150 from illegally parked drivers.
