MOBILE, Ala. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the creation of its new Marine Unit, further expanding the agency’s ability to protect the citizens and visitors who enjoy Mobile County’s rivers, bays, lakes, and waterways.
As part of this initiative, the Sheriff’s Office has taken delivery of a new patrol vessel specifically equipped for law enforcement operations, search and rescue missions, emergency response, and public safety patrols throughout Mobile County’s waterways.
The Marine Unit will provide deputies with the specialized equipment and capabilities needed to respond more quickly to emergencies on the water, assist stranded boaters, enforce boating laws, investigate crimes occurring on waterways, and support search and rescue operations.
“Our waterways are a vital part of life in Mobile County,” said Sheriff Paul Burch. “Whether families are spending time on the river, commercial vessels are navigating our channels, or first responders are searching for someone in distress, it’s critical that we have the resources to respond quickly and effectively. This Marine Unit strengthens our commitment to protecting every part of Mobile County, both on land and on the water.”
The unit will also work alongside local, state, and federal agencies during large-scale public events, natural disasters, severe weather incidents, and other emergency situations where coordinated marine operations are essential.
The addition of the Marine Unit reflects the Sheriff’s Office’s continued investment in public safety while expanding specialized services to meet the growing needs of Mobile County.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office looks forward to placing the vessel into service this weekend during the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo.
