Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Freight Train in Mobile County

MOBILE COUNTY, AL. A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train on Friday, September 4th, 2026, according to the mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
Numerous emergency services including fire departments, EMS and law enforcement responded Friday morning after the person was struck by a freight train.
Deputies reported that the crash occurred at Irvington-Bayou La Batre Highway near U.S. 90, and the train stopped on the tracks at the grade crossing.
The name of the deceased has now been released.
Law enforcement said William Hieronymus of Irvington was walking on the tracks when he was hit.
Federal investigators responded and an investigation is underway.
