Lying to Police About Having a Concealed Gun is a Crime Without Punishment

Lying to the police could get you in trouble unless you lie about carrying a concealed firearm.
Now that Alabama has passed the Constitutional Carry law which permits anyone who can legally own a firearm to carry it concealed without a permit, police are finding more people who do.

But if police ask you if you are carrying a concealed firearm and you’re dishonest, there’s a law against that and you could be charged but there would be no penalty. That part of it was never written in the law.
 But that may change soon as legislators are considering passing a criminal statute that could land you in jail for up to a year or receive a fine up to $6,000 or both.

In 2022, the State of Alabama passed a law making it legal to conceal and carry a weapon on your person or vehicle.
Many in law enforcement, especially the Alabama Sheriffs Association were against that law and tried several times to defeat that piece of legislation, but it didn’t work.

The new bill, HB58, has been introduced to the State Legislature and is scheduled to be on the agenda for the House Judiciary Committee.

The 2025 legislative session will be looking to get this law.
