MONTGOMERY, Ala. An employee has been shot outside of the Hyundai plant in Montgomery.
According to law enforcement, police, firefighters and EMS were called to the plant in the 700 block of Hyundai Boulevard Wednesday at around 10:30 p.m.
Emergency responders found the man, who a spokesman for Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama confirmed was an employee of the manufacturer suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking area during shift change.
A police spokesperson said that the unidentified employee was suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
The spokesman identified the victim as an HMMA team member. He said the incident involved the employee and “an armed individual who we do not believe is an HMMA team member.”
Law enforcement is actively investigating the incident, and we are cooperating fully with that investigation. Because it remains an active investigation, we are unable to provide additional details at this time.
“Our thoughts are with our team member and their family, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.
We are grateful for the prompt response of law enforcement, emergency medical personnel, and those who assisted at the scene.
The safety and security of our team members remain our highest priority.”
When asked if firearms are allowed on the property, or if their security guards were armed, there were no replies.
No additional details about what led up to the shooting have been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
