FAIRHOPE, Ala. A demolition permit has now been issued to take down one of the most iconic buildings in Fairhope.
A building that many have shopped in, taken pictures of, and that has stood at 301 Fairhope Avenue for decades will soon be no more.
The building has outlived its use, and its nostalgia is gone and will soon be nothing more than memories, as the demolition work will erase it from the Fairhope landscape.
The work should begin in about two weeks, with completion before mid-November, according to city building official Eric Cortinas. The roof has already collapsed, and it could become a danger to pedestrians on the sidewalk, according to city officials.
Big plans are underway for its replacement. For more than a year, talks of a hotel project with retail shops have been circulated, debated, and the talk of locals, but that talk may soon become reality.
Current owner Sildi, LLC., latest plans for the site will be reviewed again as the owners wait for the city’s approval process to give them the green light on their proposed project.
