MOBILE, Ala. Another large investment to the Mobile area is being made at the Intermodal Container Transfer Facility at the Port of Mobile.
According to a release from the Mobile Chamber, the Mobile Industrial Development Board approved support for the expansion. APM Terminals Mobile, in coordination with the Alabama Port Authority, has made $58.6 million in investments.
The expansion, set to include two 3,000-foot working tracks and two Cantilever Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes, will increase both the capacity and efficiency of the facility.
“APM Terminals Mobile is proud to support the expansion of the Intermodal Rail Facility, which marks a significant step forward in strengthening the Port of Mobile’s connectivity,” Brian Harold, managing director of APM Terminals Mobile, said.
“With direct access to Class I railroads, this enhanced infrastructure positions us to serve major population centers across the U.S. and Canada and opens new opportunities for industries moving containerized cargo. We’re committed to being a gateway for growth and global trade,” Harold said.
Along with this investment, the Port Authority’s other improvement projects include the “$366 million channel deepening and widening project, $109 million Phase IV container terminal expansion, $98 million construction of the Montgomery Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, and the upcoming approximately $100 million Phase V berth expansion,” the release said.
