The collision, as first reported by our reporter on-scene, showed six to eight vehicles in various positions with many people injured.
Spanish Fort Police, ALEA troopers, several ambulances and fire departments were dispatched to the collision which was determined to be a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) over several hours.
The first call sent the Spanish Fort Fire Department, Medstar and police to the area of 5200 Battleship Parkway near the Meaher State Park.
A request by on-scene personnel also dispatched a medical helicopter, more fire apparatuses and additional ambulances.
