A man and woman who were pulled from the water at a South Carolina beach have both died, according to reports from sister-station WCSC.
The two people were reportedly unconscious when they were rescued from the water Tuesday afternoon at Breach Inlet between Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms.
Both were rushed to the hospital, but the woman died Tuesday evening and the man on Wednesday morning, WCSC reported.
While authorities worked to identify the man and woman, the Sullivan’s Island town administrator told WCSC that personal items and a vehicle were recovered on the beach.
Isle of Palms Police and Sullivan’s Island Fire and Rescue were investigating the deaths.
It is unclear what caused the man and woman to struggle in the water.
To stay safe at the coast, the National Weather Service urges beachgoers to be aware of the weather, tide, and their surroundings.
