FAIRHOPE, Ala. Two Foley residents have been arrested on robbery charges in what the Fairhope police say was a scheme that involved an online ad for a car that was for sale.
Twenty-four-year-old Ayzia L. Williams and 19-year-old Jaylin B. Brown are each charged with first-degree robbery.
Brown is also facing a second-degree marijuana possession charge.
Fairhope police said that a Mobile man replied to a social media post about a car for sale and arranged to meet the sellers in Fairhope. However, during a test drive, the male suspect, later identified as Brown, allegedly brandished a gun, took the victim’s cell phone and gave it to a female accomplice in the backseat. The woman, later identified as Williams, then tried to make an electronic funds transfer to her account, according to police.
That transaction helped investigators when they found the attempted electronic funds transfer via a cash app, and that led to the identities of the suspects.
During the robbery, the victim, who police did not identify, was able to escape and run for help.
Both suspects have been booked into the Baldwin County Detention Center.
