MOBILE, Ala. A stolen vehicle ring operating across several state lines has now received stiff prison sentences for their crimes after pleading guilty in federal court.
Federal and local law enforcement uncovered the ring that had stolen vehicles in several states and transported them across state lines to Mobile.
The United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Alabama said that between July 2023 to June 2024 all three men participated in the conspiracy to transport stolen vehicles.
According to a United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Alabama news release, 33-year-old Mobile resident Corey Dion Wallace was sentenced to 70 months in prison; 31-year-old Mobile resident Javonte Althonse Andrew Mitchell was sentenced to 63 months; and 48-year-old Atlanta, Georgia resident Jason Emeal Robinson was sentenced to 46 months.
Officials said the scheme was first discovered in September 2023 when a Mobile resident unknowingly bought a stolen vehicle from the party’s coconspirators through Facebook Marketplace.
Law enforcement said they were able to find 10 stolen vehicles through altered vehicle identification numbers.
Wallace and Mitchell were arrested in January 2024 in Mobile. The release said that four stolen vehicles were in their possession at the time of their arrests, associated with Wallace’s used car dealership.
Investigators said they found more stolen vehicles, an altered VIN, weapons, and communication devices that linked the three men to the crime.
Mitchell and Wallace also faced illegal gun possession charges because they were not allowed to have firearms due to prior felony convictions.
According to the sentencing guidelines, the three men will also have to serve three years of supervised release, which includes drug testing and credit limitations. The defendants are also ordered to pay back $308,054.88 in restitution to the victims, which is the value of the stolen vehicles reported, and $700 in special assessments.
