Theodore-Dawes House fire Under Investigation

Several fire departments were called out to a structure fire Monday night in the Theodore-Dawes area and found the home ablaze.

Homeowner Phoung Khuu says her husband and daughter were inside, but they made it out safely, but the home received heavy damage in the fire.

Theodore Dawes Fire Rescue Fire Chief Frank Byrd says the house is a total loss.

Chief Byrd noted that there was a space heater in use inside a garage which may or may not have been the point of origin for the fire.

Byrd says the house was already fully engulfed in flames, leading the volunteer fire department to call in help from Mobile Fire-Rescue.

Khuu says this tragedy is even more difficult because this is the second home she’s lost to a disaster.

The cause of how the fire started is still under investigation.
