Small Fire at Mobile Jail Quickly Extinguished

On April 8, 2025, at 6:15 a.m., a small fire began in the laundry room of the Mobile County Metro Jail.
Metro Jail Central Control, upon receiving an alarm, swiftly initiated its fire protocol, notifying Mobile Fire-Rescue and deputies immediately responded to the area of the fire.
The City of Mobile Fire-Rescue promptly responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. At this time, no injuries to Mobile County Corrections Officer or inmates were reported.
Based on initial observations, the fire originated from a commercial dryer that overheated. Due to the area where the laundry room is located and the safety measures in place, no evacuations were necessary, ensuring the safety of all involved.
At this time the estimated damage and cost to repair the area is unknown.
