Mobile Police Vehicle Crashes While Responding to Emergency Call

UPDATE:
On Sunday, June 1, 2025, shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1600 block of St. Stephens Road.
While enroute, a vehicle traveling in front of an officer suddenly stopped near St. Stephens Road and Lafayette Street. To avoid an impact, the officer attempted to maneuver around the vehicle but was involved in a collision with the vehicle. A parked vehicle nearby was also struck. One person was transported to a local hospital by personal vehicle as a precaution, but no major injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, officers responding to the initial call observed a male subject toss a firearm across the street from 1608 Sports Bar and Grill. The subject led officers on a short foot pursuit before he was apprehended. Xavier Penn, 26, was arrested and transported to Metro Jail. No injuries were reported at this location.
The traffic accident remains an active investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
MOBILE, Ala. In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 1st, 2025, a Mobile police vehicle was involved in a traffic collision at around 4:30 a.m.
Mobile police and firefighters rushed to the area of Saint Stephens Road and Lafayette Road where several vehicles had crashed, and all vehicles had damage.
We’ve been told that there were non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, the accident is under investigation and we’ve asked the Mobile Police Department for further information.
