MOBILE, AL. The Mobile Police Department has announced an initiative to help curb traffic fatalities in the city.
Police officers will increase education as well as enforcement, especially violations of speeding and DUI.
Already this year, the city has had eight traffic fatalities, a spokesperson said, compared to four in 2025.
Of the eight traffic fatalities recorded in the community this year, police said six involved speeding as a contributing factor.
Officers will concentrate on compliance with traffic laws as well as conduct increased patrols in high-traffic areas. Enforcement efforts will focus on speeding and other violations to reduce crashes, particularly those involving serious injury or death, the department said.
