Mobile Man Faces Charges After Burnouts Lead to Pursuit

MOBILE, Ala.
November 26, 2024
Mobile police say that officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly doing burnouts and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but that the driver sped off, leading police on a pursuit.
According to Mobile Police the pursuit started on Water and Dauphin Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 24.
The driver, 23-year-old Marlon Horace, was arrested near Yester Oaks Apartments.
According to police, this was an isolated incident that did not involve a group of people, but this sort of reckless driving can be seen across the nation, including the Atlanta, Georgia area during what’s called a “street takeover.”
Takeovers are defined as car meets, side shows or street racing events where people come together and engage in reckless and dangerous activities on public roads.
A new Alabama law makes it easier for police to seize vehicles involved in exhibition driving and street racing, allowing police to use videos and photos as evidence to impound the vehicle and hold it for a minimum of 48 hours.
Before the new law went into effect, officers had to personally witness the exhibition driving or street racing and then stop and identify the driver.
