WHITEHOUSE FORKS COMMUNITY, AL.
A dangerous situation played out Monday afternoon that could have ended tragically for
public safety responders.
At approximately 3:25 p.m., December 8, 2025, the Baldwin County 911 Communications Center received a call that someone had been abused and that they shot a 59-year-old man in their defense.
The caller gave a 911 dispatcher an address on Brown Road in the Whitehouse Forks community and the local Crossroads and Whitehouse Volunteer Fire Departments and an ambulance were all immediately dispatched to the area.
A medical helicopter was also immediately dispatched to the scene.
While the Baldwin County Sherrif’s Officer was responding, all emergency responders staged nearby out of harm’s way.
During this intense twenty to thirty minutes, responders didn’t know if the person supposedly shot was alive or dead, but they knew that they needed to get into the house as quickly as possible to render aid, but they couldn’t until law enforcement could ensure that it was safe to do so.
Upon arrival of deputies, they determined that the whole scenario was made up and never happened.
Someone had called in a hoax that sent a lot of resources to the rural part of Baldwin County including an emergency helicopter. These resources could have been injured or even killed while responding to this made-up scene.
The cost of the fire trucks from two fire departments, an ambulance, law enforcement and the helicopter collectively cost minimally at least $5000 or more.
This is not a joke nor a prank. It’s a very serious crime!
Nationwide, “Swatting”, the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address has cost the lives of several people, wasted valuable resources and is a very dangerous prank that is also illegal.
If found, the person could face criminal charges up to a felony.
