Four Charged With Manslaughter in Drug Overdose Death
ORANGE BEACH, Ala.
July 2nd, 2024
An investigation into a drug overdose death conducted by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of four individuals who were charged with manslaughter under a new Alabama law.
Gerald Lee Anderson, III, 27 of Spanish Fort, Malia Autumn Decautur, 25 of Spanish Fort, Roshell Michael Benson, 32 of Brewton, and Madison Lee Hayek, 22 of Silverhill are all charged under a new Alabama Law that allows for the prosecution of someone who furnishes drugs that result in an overdose death.
While neither law enforcement nor the Baldwin County prosecutor’s office offered a lot of details surrounding the death, they did say that the overdose occurred Saturday night in Orange Beach and that the presence of Fentanyl was confirmed at the Baldwin County Coroner’s office.
This would be the first case in Baldwin County prosecuted under the new law.
Manslaughter is a Class B Felony that carries a possible sentence of 2 to 20 years in prison.
