The city of Pelham has officially announced a new police chief after Brent Sugg retired earlier this year.
Mayor Gary Waters appointed Edward Delmore as the new police chief, in an announcement from the city on Friday.
Delmore says that he is more than excited to lead the department in Pelham.
“Earlier this year, two significant events aligned: I accomplished all of my professional goals in Gulf Shores, and I learned of Chief Sugg’s decision to return to Oklahoma to support his wife’s career. The timing was serendipitous. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Pelham Police Department.”
Mayor Waters says while he was sad that Sugg left, he is excited that Delmore is bringing the same character to the department that Sugg had.
“The sadness I feel at the loss of Chief Brent Sugg can only be offset by the appointment of another similar in character; that is Chief Ed Delmore. Chief Delmore leads from the front and is the one to take the baton. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Delmore comes to the city of Pelham with over 40-years of police experience and 20-years of experience as a police chief, including 15-years as the chief in Gulf Shores. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has instructed law enforcement professionals nationwide, including police supervisors at the Pentagon.
Delmore will take the oath of office at a city council meeting April 7.
