Alabama Corrections Trainee Arrested For Attempting to Smuggle Contraband Into Prison

The Alabama Department of Corrections has arrested close to a dozen of its employees during the past eighteen months, mainly for the smuggling of contraband into a correctional facility and distribution of drugs.
This time, a Correctional Officer Trainee who had not even made it to the completion of his training has been arrested for doing what others before him has done, “Smuggling of Contraband.
Tommy Middleton was arrested Friday, during a search conducted by ADOC K-9 Officers at the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Middleton was found in possession of approximately 212 grams of marijuana and two cell phones.
ADOC says the investigation was a joint effort involving the ADOC K-9, Narcotics, and Law Enforcement Services Divisions.
Corrections officials say Middleton was transported to the Escambia County Jail and charged with, Possession of Marijuana 1st, Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd, Attempting to Commit a Controlled Substance Crime, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Operations.
ADOC also says less than 24 hours before this arrest, a joint contraband interdiction operation was conducted at Fountain CF by the K-9, Intelligence and Communications Services, and Men’s Services Divisions, and the Corrections Emergency Response Team.
It says the operation resulted in the removal of contraband, which is part of a larger campaign led by the ADOC Commissioner’s Office.
In March, Sabrina Taylor, an employee of the Alabama Department of Corrections at the Holman Prison in Atmore, was arrested and charged with having “an intimate and ongoing sexual relationship” with an inmate in the prison.
Also in March, Cherrilian Phelisa Daisey Ramirez was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substances, second degree possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was working as an employee of Allied Security at the time, a contract security company for ADOC.
The contraband included 3.6 gigagrams of marijuana, 60 THC infused gummies, and other unspecified drug paraphernalia.
In February, A security guard who works at an Alabama prison is facing multiple charges after an Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 officer discovered an attempt to bring contraband inside the facility, according to Alabama Department of Corrections.
Correctional Security Guard Arianna Slater is charged with promoting prison contraband, possession of marijuana and drug trafficking.
Employees at Ventress Correctional Facility, located in Barbour County, were following a routine drug screening when contraband was found in a food container belonging to Slater, authorities said.
The contraband included:
13 grams of marijuana
46 grams of fentanyl
Cell phones, charging blocks, and USB cords
After Slater was detained for questioning, a search was conducted on her vehicle. Investigators did not disclose whether they recovered any evidence in the vehicle.
They say the ADOC investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.
