Elberta Man Shot Into Vehicle During Road Rage

LILLIAN, Ala. On Monday, December 1, 2025, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a road rage incident that occurred on U.S. Highway 98 near Lillian, Alabama.
The reporting motorist advised that an unknown male subject, later identified as ALAN SCOTT COILE (“COILE”), a 68-year-old white male from Elberta, Alabama, was armed with a handgun and shot into the vehicle the victim was driving while both vehicles were traveling on U.S. Highway 98.
The victim further reported that COILE intentionally crashed his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle while both were in operation.
Deputies responding to the call observed a bullet hole and other damage to the victim’s vehicle consistent with the victim’s statement.
On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested COILE at his residence in Elberta, Alabama.
Investigators executed a search warrant at COILE’s residence and seized his vehicle for evidence processing.
Handguns were located and seized from the vehicle and the residence.
COILE has been charged with Discharging Firearm; Etc., into Occupied…Automobile (one count) and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree (one count).
He was transported to the Baldwin County Corrections Center for holding.
