SPANISH FORT Ala. Flames were shooting from under the cab of the eighteen-wheel truck on Interstate 10 Westbound in Spanish Fort Saturday morning just after 11 a.m. as drivers tried avoiding the growing flames and the buildup of the traffic.
Firefighters from both Spanish Fort and Mobile Fire-Rescue Departments sent multiple apparatus, police, and troopers also soon pulled up to the scene which by now was burning hot and flames were an estimated ten feet in the sky.
Some quick actions of the driver saved the trailer after he pulled to tractor and trailer apart saving the trailer and the contents from going up in flames.
Interstate 10 was shut down several times. Once, as firefighters battled the growing fire and a second time when the wreck pulled up to haul the damaged tractor away.
There was heavy damage to the tractor and the fire left a substantial area of the road and bridge with burnt marks.
No injuries were reported.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency troopers are investigating this incident.
