BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. A man arrested after a high-speed pursuit in Baldwin County on November 19, 2024, has been sentenced to federal prison on a federal gun charge.
Baldwin County deputy sheriffs spotted Jabari Maliek Stots, 28, driving a stolen vehicle and tried pulling him over, but he led them on a pursuit where speeds climbed to over 100 miles per hour.
Prosecutors said Stots eventually bailed out of the vehicle on foot after deputies used a “pit” maneuver to immobilize it, and he was apprehended following a foot pursuit that involved a shot fired by a deputy, which did not strike Stots, but he was bit by a K-9 officer.
The stolen vehicle was searched by deputies, and they found a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, officials said. A .22 caliber pistol that Stots discarded during the foot chase was also recovered.
According to federal prosecutors, Stots was prohibited from owning or being in possession of a firearm due to a previous felony conviction.
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Terry F. Moorer in Mobile, who also ordered Stots to serve a three-year term of supervised release upon his release from prison, during which time he will be subject to drug testing and receive mental health evaluation and treatment.
