DAPHNE, Ala. A 66-year-old Daphne man was arrested after a stand-off with police and charged with making a terrorist threat after Daphne police say he stood on a neighbor’s porch holding guns, then fled to his house and threatened to hurt himself or his neighbor while refusing to exit his home or cooperate with police.
Police were called just before midnight Friday to the Jubilee Farms community after receiving 911 calls about a man acting erratically.
A neighbor reported their doorbell camera had captured James McMasters standing on their porch with holding guns, according to authorities.
By the time officers arrived, McMasters had returned to his own home, according to authorities. Police were able to contact McMasters by phone, but he refused to come out and talk with police. He also made threats indicating he would hurt himself or his neighbor, if given the opportunity, they said.
The Daphne Police Department SWAT team was deployed to begin crisis negotiations and evacuate nearby residents, according to authorities.
Daphne police reported that after five hours of negotiations, McMasters surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
McMasters is charged with first-degree making a terrorist threat, a Class C felony, and was taken to the Baldwin County Corrections Center late Saturday, Daphne PD said.
No one was injured during the incident.
Daphne reported that McMasters died early Monday morning, January 5, 2026, in a motorcycle crash on State Highway 181 & Pleasant Road after striking a tree.
Responding officers found the lone rider, James McMasters, who was was deceased at the scene.
Police said no other vehicles were involved.
The crash is still under investigation, police said, and contributing factors have yet to be determined.
