ALEA Pursuit Ends With Multiple Wrecks and Injuries

UPDATE: Ruben Costa, the driver of the fleeing vehicle that caused the mayhem has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
DAPHNE Ala. On Monday afternoon, January 5, 2026, at around 2:25 p.m., police began looking for a hit and run suspect,
An ALEA trooper spotted the possible vehicle involved and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver fled leading multiple law enforcement officers on a pursuit along Interstate 10 in the Daphne area.
The driver crashed into multiple vehicles while he continued fleeing, even going the wrong way on the interstate.
One vehicle that the driver crashed into caught fire with the driver still inside.
Daphne police and fire and a medical helicopter responded to the scenes.
Interstate 10 and State Highway 181 near I-10 were closed for several hours while Daphne police and state troopers assisted injured people and investigated the incident.
We know that at least three people were injured during the chase.
ALEA has not yet released an official statement.
