Alabama Woman Killed in Collision With Police Vehicle

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. ALEA troopers are investigating a fatal wreck involving an on-duty Madison County sheriff’s deputy.
According to law enforcement, a 27-year-old woman was killed when the vehicle in which she was a passenger was hit by an on-duty Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was responding to an emergency call.
Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Jacques L. Whitt who lived in Madison.
Trooper Sgt. Reginal King said Whitt was a passenger in a Kia Optima that was hit by a 2022 Ford Explorer sheriff’s vehicle that was driven by a Madison County sheriff’s deputy.
The wreck happened at 12:27 a.m. Saturday on Alabama 53 near mile marker 323, about six miles northwest of Huntsville.
The deputy, whose name has not been released, was actively responding to a call for service with the SUV’s emergency lights and siren activated at the time of the crash.
According to ALEA, Whitt was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, and she was ejected from the car and pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Kia, 30-year-old Mardasha D. Woods, of Huntsville, also was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was also thrown from the car.
Woods and another passenger, 31-year-old Hailey N. Tibbs, of Huntsville, were injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment.
The deputy and an intern who was also riding with the deputy were also both injured and taken to Huntsville Hospital.
Their condition is unknown at this time.
The investigation is ongoing by troopers.
