Alabama Bus Driver Dies After Crashing Into Building

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. A Metro Area Express (MAX) bus driver died after the bus that he was driving left the road and crashed into a building.
The Jefferson County Coroner identified the driver who died at UAB Hospital following a crash on Wednesday as John Haward Scott, 67, of Birmingham.
According to police, the driver lost control of the transit bus, and it crashed into a building in the 2900 block of 29th Avenue North.
Scott was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“The MAX Transit family is heartbroken to share that our operator, John Scott, passed away this morning from what appeared to be a medical emergency while performing his duties,” MAX stated. “The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and ask the community to keep them in their thoughts during this difficult time.”
The bus was occupied at the time of the crash but there is no report of anyone being injured. The Birmingham Police Department is investigating.
