A New $210 Million Sawmill Has Opened in Mobile County

A new sawmill is now open in north Mobile County Tuesday morning and Canfor Southern Pine said that the 210 million investment is now up and running on Highway 43.
President of Canfor Southern Pine Lee Goodloe said that they first broke ground in April 2023 and that the mill the 155-acre sawmill took close to 600,000 construction hours to build.
The mill provides jobs, and the logs brought into the new ‘Axis Sawmill’ will help create around 17,000 single-family homes every year.
“It’s modern technology today keeps us with sustainable products that we can deliver to the market in support of the housing sector,” said Goodloe.
Having this mill here will also help cut costs for construction companies and it is logistically situated on the Gulf Coast.
Goodloe told News 5 this facility will create close to 550 direct and indirect jobs for people in the community.
“Ther mill also provides other jobs indirectly such as our loggers, our truckers, and our other business partners as well as civil culture and industrial partners,” said Goodloe.
