9 People Arrested in Alabama During Child Sex Sting

WETUMPKA, Ala. Sex stings are happening more frequently across the state as police have partnered with other state and federal law enforcement agencies and private entities whose mission is to catch sexual predators.
This week in Wetumpka, such a sting took place with nine people arrested.
Wetumpka Police arrested nine people in connection with a child sex operation.
Whitley J. Brown, 32, of Montgomery; Contravious J. Jackson, 19, of Elmore; Miguel Tello Lugo, 28, of Opelika; Tyrone L. Dabney, 31, of Montgomery; Jacarlo B. Abner, 40, of Montgomery; Ryan David Wilson, 27, of Atlanta, GA; Demario Nicholson, 35, of Pine Hill; Errick B. Smith, 35, of Montgomery; and Willie N. Watts, 37, of Montgomery have been charged with human trafficking, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act and electronic solicitation of a child.
Wetumpka is a city in and the county seat of Elmore County, Alabama, with a population of less than 8,000.
Covenant Rescue Group helped police with the undercover operation in which suspects engaged in online communications with individuals they believed to be minors, police said.
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to protecting children and pursuing justice for the most vulnerable members of our community,” police stated.
The Wetumpka Police Department thanked the Elmore County District Attorney’s Office, the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office, and the Eclectic Police Department for assistance in the investigation.
The suspects are being held in the Elmore County Jail on no bond. They are considered innocent until proven guilty.
