A tractor -trailer rollover on Interstate 10 in Loxley injured one person just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday as a heavy snow was falling and it was just the beginning of the domino-effect for drivers and emergency responders alike.
The area near mile marker 47 was iced over and snow covered, a recipe for disaster for drivers who were unaware of the condition.
Loxley Police, ALEA Troopers, Loxley Fire and EMS quickly responded to the area.
The Loxley area of I-10 was quickly shut down, and all on-ramps in the area were closed and the backup of cars soon began.
While this was going on in Loxley, other parts of Interstate 10 were also being shut down temporarily as the roads were covered by snow and ice making driving conditions treacherous.
Both Mobile and Baldwin County officials were pleading with residents to stay off the road and while many did, many others continued to drive and that led to cars running off the road, crashing into each other and causing havoc for emergency responders.
Throughout the day, dozens of vehicles wrecked on both sides of the bay, but as of right now, there were no reports of any fatalities.
