On March 5, 2025, The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations conducted an operation that led to the arrest of an individual who is a member of one of the most violent gangs in existence, Mara Salvatrucha, (MS-13).
The gang member, ORLANDO RIZO PEREZ, was taken into custody for federal arrest warrants related to Narcotics Trafficking and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Crime out of the Western District of Virginia.
RIZO-PEREZ is currently present in the United States illegally.
Mara Salvatrucha, commonly known as MS-13, is an international criminal gang and terrorist organization that originated in Los Angeles, California in the 1980s.
Originally, the gang was set up to protect Salvadoran immigrants from other gangs in the Los Angeles area.
Over time, the gang grew into a more traditional criminal organization.
On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order initiating the process to designate various drug cartels and transnational gangs, including MS-13, as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, which was officially enacted on February 20, 2025, making such groups officially terrorist organizations.
