UPDATE: Teen Identified as Fairhope Shooting Victim

FAIRHOPE, Ala. We have confirmed that a teenager was shot in the Rock Creek neighborhood on Saturday night.

While Fairhope police reported that they responded to a “single” gunshot in the area, they misled the public by not following up their statement that someone had been shot and that an investigation was underway. They knew at the time of their statement that a shooting had occurred and they intentionally misled the public.

We were able to confirm that the teenager was transported to an area trauma center and that neighbors stated that her name is Riley Cranton.

At this time, it appears to be an accidental shooting but that may change after a full investigation by law enforcement.

A GoFundMe called ‘Help Riley Recover from Tragic Accident’ was created. The organizer says Riley, who is a Fairhope High School student, was “involved in a tragic firearm discharge accident” and was hospitalized.

On Monday, Fairhope Police shared an update on Facebook saying witness interviews are ongoing but stopped short of providing any further information.
