MOBILE, AL. Police in Mobile conducted a traffic stop for a moving violation and many times, the driver would receive a ticket and be released, but not this time.
The stop occurred on Monday, July 6, 2026, at approximately 10:02 a.m., when officers initiated the traffic stop for a violation in the area of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Crawford Lane.
As officers approached the vehicle, they smelled the odor of marijuana.
This gave officers probable cause to search the vehicle and officers removed the driver and passenger from the vehicle.
During the probable cause search of the vehicle, they located two firearms, one of which had a Glock switch attached.
Police arrested Joshua Coleman, 22, and he was charged with a felony and transported to Metro Jail.
Possessing a “Glock switch” (auto sear) is a severe felony under federal law and most state laws including Alabama.
Because these devices convert semi-automatic handguns into fully automatic machine guns, they are strictly prohibited, carrying penalties of up to 10 years in federal prison and significant fines.
